Systems and Technology
Our technology offers end-to-end solutions for quantitative monitoring of aerial fauna density and migration. The compact and mobile radar devices supply high quality analyses and reports.
In our technology library you will find details on how our systems collect data and what we can learn from the gathered information.
Bird Scan radar systems
Each of our systems was developed for a specific application. Below you can find more information on each BirdScan modell. For detailed technical data please click on the button «learn more».
FaunaScan MR2
The next generation radar for monitoring aerial biodiversity
Specifically developed for monitoring birds, bats and insects the radar allows for accurate quantification and unparalleled classification possibilities. FaunaScan MR2 excels at accurate quantification and classification into subgroups for birds, bats and insects. Micro-doppler signatures, 3-D tracks, polarization pattern and many more features are available for the hundreds of thousands registered birds, bats or insects each year.
As a fully integrated system the radar is lighter and has a smaller footprint than its predecessors.
BirdScan MR1
Collecting scientific data
This bio monitoring system measures the bird and bat movement using a rotating horn antenna. In addition to the analyses of the spatiotemporal distribution, the system offers real time classification and quantification represented as mean traffic rate. Data are stored in raw format and is available for further processing.
BirdScan MV1
Operating wind farms efficiently
The monitoring system allows the adaptive management of wind parks to mitigate collisions of migratory birds and bats with wind turbines. If the collision risk exceeds the specified threshold, the system alarms the plant operator or can automatically communicate with the wind park controls.
BirdScan MS1
Active collision management
BirdScan MS1 is a compact electronic scanning radar- system with the latest technology for active collision management of protected birds in conjunction with wind turbines. The radar permanently monitors the space fully automatically in 3D and tracks and classifies large birds such as red kite, lesser spotted eagle etc. in real time.
It was developed in close cooperation with ornithological associations and wind power operators.
